What a fantastic turn out for our Tale of Two Sisters concert yesterday lunchtime. St Nicholas' RC Church in Winchcombe was full to the brim with a really lovely audience who made us feel very welcome. Our programme of songs, arias and duets was very well received and I can't wait to perform it again next weekend in Irton, Cumbria. Soprano Hannah Davey is any absolute dream to perform with, as I discovered almost 2 years ago when we first sang together in Cosi fan Tutte in Anghiari, Italy. Although it was decidedly cooler this time, the sun did shine for us in Gloucestershire.
A Tale of Two Sisters
The programme consists of a mix of composers and periods including Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Fauré, Quilter and Britten. We span the centuries with songs of sisters and their relationships, both with one another and with others and discovered some hidden gems along the way including Die Schwestern, a duet by Brahms about two sisters with a rather odd relationship. With matching but town hair and a tendency to hold hands and sleep in the same bed they are inseperable - until they happen to fall for the same man!
With fantastic support and beautiful musicality from Chris Davey at the piano the concert was so enjoyable to perform.
Hannah, Chris and I had a fantastic afternoon in Winchcombe and would like to thank Winchcombe Festival of Music and Arts and Chairman Roger Paine for inviting us to be part of such a vibrant weekend of festivities.
